New video: ‘Here is the Beehive’ (counting song)

This month Lucy Sparkles performs the counting song ‘Here is the Beehive’. Click ‘read more’ for EYFS and musical aims, lyrics and further activities.

To feel the pulse through actions and to understand and demonstrate a ‘fast’ and ‘slow’ tempo.

Further Activities for ‘Here is the Beehive’

Babies: Hold your baby’s hand and move it to the pulse. Then gently squeeze their fingers one by one as indicated by the words. Give your baby a tickle at the end.

Pre-schoolers: The children are sitting in a circle. Count five children into the centre to be the bees so that they know exactly which is one, two, three, four and five. They curl up in a ball. As the numbers are sung, they get up one at a time and buzz around, ending in their original place in the circle.


Here is the beehive,
Where are the bees?
Hidden away where nobody sees.
Here come the bees now,
Out of the hive.
One, two, three, four, five.
